Here and There (January 28)

A Puritan prayer from The Valley of Vision:

Thou has brought me to the valley of vision,
where I live in the depths but see thee in the heights;
hemmed in by mountains of sin I behold
Thy glory.

Let me learn by paradox
that the way down is the way up,
that to be low is to be high,
that the broken heart is the healed heart,
that the contrite spirit is the rejoicing spirit,
that the repenting soul is the victorious soul,
that to have nothing is to possess all,
that to bear the cross is to wear the crown,
that to give is to receive,
that the valley is the place of vision.

Lord, in the daytime stars can be seen from deepest wells,
deepest wells,
and the deeper the wells the brighter
Thy stars shine;

Let me find Thy light in my darkness,
Thy life in my death,
Thy joy in my sorrow,
Thy grace in my sin,
Thy riches in my poverty
Thy glory in my valley.

3.  –  Love is Neither Easy Nor Natural.  “Life in community with sinners doesn’t fit on a Hallmark card. It’s messy and pride-exposing. It is anything but easy.”

4.  –  “Forgiving is the hardest thing you will ever do.”

5.  –  Two Years to No Lies.  Although I have no real information on the background of this author, I found this an interesting read on someone who made a vow to never tell another lie for the rest of her life.  As far as I can tell, she is undertaking this in a purely secular sense, that is apart from God and any consideration of or reliance upon Him.  I would find that difficult, if not impossible.

I think this Infographic is great.  I plan on memorizing ALL of these!

Psalm 43:5  Why are you cast down, O my soul?  And why are you disquieted within me?  Hope in God; For I shall yet praise Him,  The help of my countenance and my God.
